Abstract
Individuals with social anxiety disorder show self-focused attention which is defined as attention-focus on negative cognition, behavior, physical symptoms and internal sensations of self. As self-focused attention not only increases social anxiety but exacerbates objective performance level, it is considered as a cardinal factor in assessment and treatment of social anxiety disorder. This study investigated psychometric properties of the Korean version of the Self-Focused Attention scale (SFA, Bogels, Alberts, & De Jong, 1996) and validated it among social anxiety disorder group and non-clinical adult group. In study 1, exploratory factor analysis was administered to a non-clinical adult group (N=226). Results showed that the two factor model consisted of ¡®self-focused attention-arousal¡¯ and ¡®self-focused attention-performance¡¯ was proper for the Korean population. In study 2, reliability and validity of the Korean version of the SFA was investigated among social anxiety disorder group (n=202) and non-clinical adult group (n=252). Results indicated that the Korean version of the SFA had appropriate reliability and validity in the two groups. Also, the two factor model was confirmed via confirmatory factor analyses. Implications for the future research and treatment were discussed.
